What is Link Popularity?
Link popularity in simple terms means the number of other Web
sites that have hyperlinks pointing to your site. This could be
from other Webmasters placing your banners or buttons on their
site or simply from other sites recommending yours for whatever
reason.
Why is Link Popularity
Important?
As search engines develop their indexing routines they are
starting to add functions such as a Web sites link popularity to
determine which sites should be listed higher in the results. The
theory behind this is that the more hyperlinks pointing to a Web
site the more popular that site must be over another site and therefore
must be a better site. The drawback here as you can probably see
is that just because a site has thousands of links pointing to it
certainly does not mean that it is any good.
Increasing Link Popularity
The best way to increase your own Web sites link popularity is
to post it to
FFA
sites which can dramatically increase it very quickly. You can use our free script to achieve
this or alternatively there are some excellent commercial
applications available.
The other way to help your site gain a high rating is to promote
swapping links with other Webmasters. If you can provide banners
it will help if not try using a link script which will also
monitor clicks that are sent your way.
Checking Link Popularity
You can see how many Web sites are pointing to yours by simply
entering your full Web site URL into any of the search engines
search box or alternatively see the
Popularity
Analyzer which will search multiple engines for you
at once.
