6. FFA Sites - 'Free For All' Sites can
sometimes be high traffic makers. Although they still have to have hits
themselves to give you traffic they can produce some excellent results.
It would take you years to submit your site to all the FFA sites out
there or minutes if you use our
free
submission script.
With these sites you have to submit to them at least three times a week
as often within minutes of being listed at the top you have been removed
by newer submissions.
FFA websites can also increase your link popularity which is
another important part of website promotion.
7. Search Engines - Search Engines are
often very difficult to get listed in. The top engines receive approximately
10000 submissions a day so it can take you months to get listed. They
also only show results from a search query which can on some search
engines be a nightmare to get your site shown. Google is by far the easiest
one to get in the top 10 listing as it doesn't rely on keywords, titles
or descriptions.
The best way to get your site listed is to use an automatic
submission service or buy your own
software This way your
site will be submitted constantly and you will get listed quicker and
any updated pages will get re-index. If you avoid submitting your website
you will lose traffic in the longer term as results normally
show after 6 to 12 months from the first submission. It is also
advisable to submit your URL to all the other search engines that exist.
Use our
manual submission page to
get this done in super fast time.
To ensure that your site is not removed I would recommend that you
re-submit your main URL once a month to the main search engines.
8. Directories - Directories are far easier
to get your site listed and shown on result pages. Because they break
down the results into categories a surfer can go to exactly where they
think a website like yours will be listed. The top two are obviously
Yahoo
and
DMOZ with DMOZ
being the quickest to get you listed.
When adding your site to Yahoo or DMOZ please ensure that it is finished
and that you submit to the right category. Because your site will be
viewed by hand you could lose thousands of hits by rushing into this
part of your promotion campaign. See our guide on the
ODP
to learn more.
It is also
worth the time to add your site to all directories known to man. Use our
manual submission page to get this
done in super fast time.
9. Swapping Links - If you have a website
which may be of interest to another Webmasters visitors you can often
swap links with them. It is not always a high traffic maker but will
ensure that you have a high profile on the Internet. Try to get a good
button or banner made up and place a 'link to us' page and a contact
address so any Webmaster who wants to swap links with you can contact
you easily.
Swapping links also helps to fool some of the search engine spiders into
thinking your site is extremely popular and give you higher positioning.
10. Paid advertisement - If you have a
commercial website or have enough money then you can pay to get your website
advertised on either, other average websites or the very high
traffic ones.
Expect to pay a lot of money for this service as it is mainly the middle
man that wins. There are lots of referral software around so you could
even cut out the middle man and run your own. Alternatively try
ClickXchange
where you can run your own advertisement campaign very cheaply.
11. Mailing Lists - Inform your visitors of
changes that have been made to your site or just keep in touch with a
mailing list. Many visitors find you, use you, forget about you so
remind them that you exist and get lots of return traffic. If you have
cgi-bin access it is a good idea to run your
own
script, otherwise head
over to
Webmasters
Tools and sign
up to their free hosted one.
12. Website Statistics - The only way you
will know where your traffic is coming from and what pages they visit is
to have website statistics. If you have cgi-bin access it is wise to buy
your
own script. If not a good one to have is by
'MyComputer'.
With site stats you can also monitor your most popular pages and which
ones are never seen. So even if your not interested in website promotion
having website stats is worth its weight in gold.
